Collapsed Topics on Moodle Course Homepage
Posted by Bonnie Tensen on 11 November 2013 11:04 AM

One way to limit the amount of scrolling required to locate content and assignments on your course homepage is to 'collapse" the topic blocks. This turns your homepage into a "hyper-table-of-contents" that enables students to quickly access information and assignments without a lot of scrolling. "Highlighting" a topic block (see step 6) enables you to draw attention to the current week. Collapsed topics will be the default in the Hybrid Template.

  1. In the Administration block, click on "Edit Settings."

    add button

  2. In the window that opens, scroll down and open the "Course Format" category, and in the dropdown menu next to "Format," select "Collapsed Topics." Then scroll down and click on "Save Changes."

  3. In the "Collapsed Topic" mode, all of the session blocks on your course homepage will now appear as "tabs" that can be individually opened by clicking on the tab to the left of the session name.

  4. Each topic block can be opened individually:

  5. To open all of the blocks, click on "open all."

  6. You can auto-open the current week's block for your students by turning editing on, and then "highlighting" the block by clicking the lightbulb icon.

  7. "Highlighting" a block means that students will see that block open while the other topic blocks remain closed.
